But nobody except we are…

2006, 20th of March, evening. There are few tents in the central square of Minsk, around tents a lot of people, a lot of flags… They are protesting against President Lukashenko, they are demanding the truth about the election. I cannot be there: my little daughter is only 4 months. The temperature is 20 degrees below zero (Celsius). But I know: a lot of women and girls came there to stay 3 days and nights with boys and men to defend Freedom of Belarus. More than 500 persons were arrested. This poem is my respect to daughters of Belarus – brave and honest. They did not win, but they showed all the world the strength of spirit and love to Belarus.

It can be very cold in March. It can be very hot in March.

It can be cold because of snow. It can be hot because you know:

Now nobody except we are, except we are.

You have a husband and a son, you don’t like snow, but you like sun.

You want to sleep, you want to eat, you never like someone you beat,

But nobody except we are, except we are.

You grapple elbows with the guy  which standing quietly on the right.

You grapple elbows with the girl which praying quietly on the left.

Now nobody except we are, except we are.

The line of soldiers is in front of you – is this a current front?

Strength of your spirit isn’t gun. Why do you went and what you come?

But nobody except we are, except we are.

Kangaroo court . It’s hard to tell. Ten days in dirty narrow cell:

Ten  places were on the bunk and fifteen persons – doesn’t fun?.

And nobody except we are, except we are.

Well,  our children will be know: we must to go – we have to go.

The way to help a Motherland – let everybody understand,

That nobody except we are, except we are.

Progressed slowly step by step, becoming stronger, we can help

Revive free Belarus again despite the fear and the pain,

And nobody except we are, except we are.
